International Free Throw Competition
Since 1972, councils have sponsored the Knights of Columbus International Free Throw Championship for boys and girls between the ages of 9 and 14. The Championship provides youths with a rewarding activity that yields a chance for local, state or provincial, and international recognition. All competition starts at the local level. Winners move on to the district, regional, and state or provincial levels. From there, some make it to the international level for championship competition in their group.
The Knights of Columbus Soccer Challenge is a competition designed for players to demonstrate their skills in the penalty kick. The competition is open to all children ages 9-14, where each player will be allowed 15 shots at the goal from the penalty line, 12 yards from the goal. Winners progress to the district, regional, state and international levels.
Coats for Kids
Coats for Kids is a major Order-wide program whereby the Council raises funds to purchase new winter coats at a discount for children and to distribute those coats to those in need at no cost within our local community. In 2017, the Council, in conjunction with the Saint Jude the Apostle Conference of St. Vincent de Paul, partnered to purchase 168 children’s mid-weight winter coats that they distributed through the Community Assistance Center and Interfaith Outreach Home to meet the needs of children.
Our goal in 2018 is to work with CAC and various community partners to raise in excess of $25,000.00 so that we provide coats for nearly 1300 children served by CAC.
